I've pretty much been asleep on my feet all day because I slept like shit last night.
That's actually a pretty apt metaphor given that shit doesn't sleep and last night neither did I.
Not enough for it to actually count, anyway.
I have no idea why; I was tired, reasonably relaxed, and by all rights I should have drifted peacefully off to sleep.
The weather is pretty crappy here. We got a couple of inches of snow and are supposed to get some more plus freezing rain overnight.
Anyway, I'm too tired to write anything too zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *snort* Huh? Whuzzat?

Does This Excite You? Not Really, But The Monty Python Thing Is Cool
I didn’t get much sleep last night – seriously, if someone out there has a Voodoo fetish doll of me and is sticking it with pins when I’m trying to sleep, knock it the hell off – so the odds that I’ll post anything coherent or in any way meaningful are even worse than they are when I’m well-rested.
So, in lieu of an actual post, please to enjoy the following video clips.
Does this excite you? No, but it does make me laugh (and kind of skeeves me out):
(Found via a comment thread at Slacktivist)
Note how bored the guy playing the organ looks, and watch for the little blonde kid who clearly can’t believe what he’s seeing during the seemingly impromptu musical number.
Whenever I hear/read about “glorified bodies,” I always picture people who look like the not-quite finished clones of Hank and Dean on The Venture Bros:
Also, I don’t really view losing my junk and turning into a Ken doll as “glorified.”
BTW, in the Left Behind books it’s stated that everyone in a glorified body is set physically at the age of 32 or 33. Sure, that’s a plus if you’re 60, but what if you’re, say, 21?
Why I love Monty Python:
(Found via Mark Evanier’s blog)
And finally, you had to know that the final Bush-era episode of The Daily Show would have some great moments. Watch the full episode here.

Oh, Like You're Really Missing Out On Anything
I know I haven't been posting for most of the week, and today isn't going to be much of an exception, as tiredness and a bunch of TV shows piled up on my DVR are standing in the way between me and any sort of significant blog post.
I'll try to post something substantial tomorrow, but in the meantime I'm sure you'll find a way to get on with your lives.

Not Dead, Just Dead Tired
So, yeah, I haven't posted anything in a couple of days, but I'm not dead.
Monday night I was so tired that I was in bed before 9.
Last night Scott came over for a movie night kind of thing.
Tonight I have a bunch of recorded TV to catch up on, so I'm not likely to post anything of substance.
Tomorrow and Friday both mark important anniversaries, though, so I'll be sure to post then.

For The Moon Never Beams Without Bringing Me Dreams...
Look, it's something different:

This is, more or less, a view of the sky I had from my backyard the other night. I thought it looked cool, so I decided I'd paint it.
Make of it what you will.
Once again I'm really tired and fading fast. Snored myself awake on the couch while nodding off watching The Simpsons.
I don't really have anything of note to write about anyway.
I will mention, though, that the title of this post is from the poem Annabel Lee, by Edgar Alan Poe.

Too Damn Tired
Yesterday I was going to post an entry about how I was too damn tired to post a proper entry, but as it turns out I was too damn tired to even do that.
After struggling to stay awake while watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report on my DVR, I said “To hell with it” and took a nap.
That just made things worse, and I ended up going to bed at 9:30. I fell asleep almost immediately, slept straight through to 5 AM, got up and went to the bathroom, then got back in bed and slept for two more hours, and was still exhausted.
I developed slightly more energy throughout the day, but not much.
I ended up leaving work late thanks to a call that I had at 4, so traffic was truly awful, and I decided to forego stopping at the comic shop as I just wanted to be home.
Fortunately I have a four day weekend ahead of me during which I can hopefully get some rest, as I’m taking Friday and Monday off.
Besides just needing a break, I need some weekday time to get things done, like getting an oil change and my state inspection. Maybe I’ll even do some proper grocery shopping while the store is relatively empty instead of the get in get out guerrilla shopping I’ve been doing during the busiest hours.
Exciting stuff, I know.
In any case, there are a couple of things I need to do before getting in some TV watching, so I guess that will do it for this entry.

It's Important To Be Akuret (See What I Did There? No? Oh.)
It seems to be around 7 that the tiredness starts to creep in.
Apparently being awake for more than 12 hours is too much effort.
Of course I can’t go to sleep that early – not anymore, anyway – so I have to find a way to stay awake for at least a few more hours, and in doing so I seem to shake the tiredness off just in time to go to bed and toss and turn before finally falling asleep.
Fun stuff.
Not much of note has been happening. It’s pretty much just been work, come home, get sleepy, stay awake, go to bed, toss and turn, etc.
Following on the heels of my entry about fact-checking, I encountered a post on Wired blogs about the continuing trend of comic book movies that was just rife with errors, illustrating my point about even more perfectly than the review that inspired the entry.
The worst part was that they were mistakes that didn’t have to be made, as they were details, or more accurately, attempts at details that didn’t need to be included.
For example, in discussing the Frank Miller-directed adaptation of The Spirit, he made a reference to the “fact” that Miller had cast an actress who had appeared in the big screen adaptation of Miller’s Sin City. This was an unnecessary detail.
Oh, and it was wrong; he stated that Eva Mendes was the actress in question. Eva Mendes who appeared in Sin City as Miss Not Appearing in this Film.
There was no reason to make this mistake, as there was no reason to mention that someone who was in Sin City will be appearing in The Spirit.
(He was half right, though; Jaime King, who played Goldie/Wendy in Sin City, is appearing in The Spirit.)
Speaking of Miller, the author of the blog post also went on to mention that another of Miller’s works – Hard Boiled – is currently in development, and he correctly stated that Hard Boiled was published in 2000.
Of course, he only “correctly” stated that if you allow a margin of error of plus or minus ten years, as Hard Boiled was actually published in 1990.
Those are just a few of the many errors contained in the post, and while it may seem nit-picky, if I’m spotting that many errors in what he writes about properties and projects that I’m familiar with, how can I trust anything he writes about properties and projects that I’m not?
Here’s the thing. I’m not a journalist. I don’t make any money off of this blog, so I’m not really under any sort of obligation to provide accurate information here. The purpose of this blog, ultimately, is just for me to ramble on about whatever I damn well please, so I don’t owe anyone anything. If I want to say “Citizen Kane was the best movie Stanley Kubrick ever directed,” no one really has legitimate grounds to complain, because I’m just some unpaid jerk-off writing whatever he feels like writing and who doesn’t have to answer to anyone. Beyond that, this isn’t a film history blog or, really, any sort of special purpose blog, so there’s no reason to think that the promise of any kind of accuracy is even implied.
And yet, when I’m writing an entry, I pretty much always have Wikipedia and IMDb open in browser tabs to that I can verify that any claims I make that can be verified are correct. How hard can it be to do that when you’re getting paid to write something and you do have a responsibility to be accurate?
I don’t really mean to harp on this, but I’m sort of at a loss for anything to write about, and it was just funny that I stumbled across the post so soon after writing an entry about exactly that sort of problem.
On a less preachy and serious note, I’ve been neglecting to share one of the more clever things I’ve said of late, so I will rectify that oversight now.
Last week one of my conference calls, the person I was talking to said, “I guess I’m just a nerd at heart.”
In response, I said, “I’m a nerd at skin.”

Being Tired Is Exhausting
Last night, feeling tired, I made the mistake of trying to go to bed early, so naturally I’m exhausted today.
I don’t understand why it is that when I go to bed early I end up getting to sleep much later than if I’d gone to bed at the normal time, but I should know by now that it’s just how it works for me.
Today was one of those days that seemed long after the fact. During my time at work the day seemed to be progressing at a decent pace, but as soon as I got in my car it felt like the morning had been a long, long time ago.
Zzzzzz - *Snort* Huh? Whuzzat?
Sorry, I’m fading pretty fast here, but I do know better than to attempt to go to bed this early.
In any case I should probably find something to do that will help keep me awake, as this just isn’t cutting it.

At Least Three Times More Hateful
I didn't sleep very well last night, and my head cold, which had moved to my chest over the weekend, decided to move back into my head today, before finally deciding to take up dual residence.
The tiredness and the cold, I found, upon arriving at work, combined forces in order to make the fact of the existence of other human beings at least three times more hateful to me than usual.
So, yeah. Not a great day.
I came home and dozed on the couch for a while, then dozed in bed for a while, then got up after about 45 minutes.
I had a picture that I started last night that I wanted to work on, but the words "screw" and "that" kept popping up in my head whenever I thought about working on it.
I would just go to bed now, but experience has taught me that when I go to bed early I invariably end up finally falling asleep well after the time I would if I'd gone to bed at the normal time, so I'm hanging in there as long as I can.
And that pretty much sums up my day.
