The Lovely And The Unlovely
As has become traditional on this date, Threshold, the unlovely and untalented blog, extends birthday greetings to the always lovely and talented Carla Gugino:

7 Years Of Threshold
As has become annual tradition, Threshold wishes to celebrate its own birth by asking everyone to join in sending out best wishes for a happy birthday to the lovely and talented Carla Gugino:

The Birthday Post?
Just like every year on this day, today Threshold wishes a happy birthday to the lovely and talented Carla Gugino!
And, of course, that means that it's time to wish a happy birthday to Threshold itself!
...
Yeah, about that...
Five years ago I happened to think, "Hey, I've been blogging for around a year or so, right?" I looked at the list of archived posts for 2004 and saw that the date range for the first week of posts started on 8/29/2004.
And I assumed that meant that was the date of Threshold's creation, and the date of my first post.
Further, I made the Threshold-Gugino connection because I happened to see on IMDb that it was her birthday, and further, that year's fall season would find her starring in a new series called Threshold. It was too perfect!
Yep. It was too perfect.
In rounding up some artwork to load onto my laptop for the Con, I went through a bunch of old posts, and in making my way backwards through time - more on that in another post - I stumbled onto a sad truth: Threshold was born on August 30th.
Still, celebrating the birth of Threshold and the birth of Carla Gugino has been a tradition for nearly as long as Threshold has been around - in fact, it's been a tradition for just one day shy of a year since Threshold began - and, apart from an interest in total honesty, I can't see any reason to change it.
So happy birthday, dear Carla Gugino! And happy birthday to you, dear Threshold!

Happy Brithday, Dear Threshold...
August 29th is upon us once again, so, as I so every year, I ask that all of you out there join me in wishing a Happy Birthday to the always lovely and always talented Carla Gugino:
Oh, and while you're at, it how about wishing a Happy Birthday to the blog of which Ms. Gugino is the Unofficial Patron Saint*, a little - and little-read - blog known as Threshold.
The very blog that, in fact you are - or more likely, aren't - reading - turns five today.
They grow up so fast. Before you know it Threshold will start finding that it has hair where it hadn't had any before, its voice will crack, it will start noticing girls, and it will become moody and rebellious and just generally impossible to live with.
It's hard to believe that I've been doing something this utterly pointless for so long, but hey, what else am I going to do with my time? Something worthwhile? Yeah, right.
Five years ago I launched this little blog with no particular plans or expectations, and while some things have changed along the way - "regular" features that have come and gone, changes to the layout, etc. - that much has remained constant.
I would be lying if I said that I'd started the blog without any sort of hopes that it might lead to something more. Sure, I wasn't expecting it, but there was some part of me that hoped that someone might stumble upon it and think, "Hey, this guy is brilliant, witty, and acerbic...I should throw money at him so that he can be brilliant, witty, and acerbic on my dime!"
But it was just a very small hope.
In any case, I thought about doing some sort of retrospective of favorite posts, but in addition to being brilliant, witty, and acerbic, I'm also lazy as hell, so I invite you to create your own retrospective via the Archive links to the right.
Take a look back at five years' worth of complaints, typos, misspellings, sentence fragments, and the ocassional picture of a famous woman not wearing much.
*For those not familiar with the story, on the day that I learned that Threshold and Carla Gugino shared a birthday I also learned that she was starring in a new TV series starting up that fall entitled...Threshold. Granted, my blog has lasted much longer than the TV show, which even Ms. Gugino's loveliness and talent couldn't keep afloat, but the coincidence was too delightful to go unrecognized. Thus, despite the fact that she's still alive - a fact that pleases me greatly because, well, I loves me some Carla Gugino - I have dubbed her this blog's Patron Saint.

The Little Blog That Couldn't
When I launched this blog on August 29, 2004, I never dreamed that it would go on to become an Internet phenomenon with a daily readership in the millions, or that it would lead to all sorts of lucrative writing gigs and go on to become one of the most significant sites in the earliest part of the 21st Century.
And it’s a good thing that I didn’t, because none of that shit ever happened.
Even so, today marks Threshold’s 4th birthday, and while its total regular readership is a number not much higher than its age, it’s still a milestone that deserves some recognition.
So, um, consider it recognized.
More importantly, though, I need to recognize and thank the handful of people who have helped make Threshold the stunning success that it isn’t. Thanks everyone!
Of course, Threshold shares a birthday with the lovely and talented Carla Gugino, and so, as has become a tradition, and by way of sending out birthday greetings to her, I’ve included a picture I’ve done of Ms. Gugino:
It’s not the picture I wanted to do, but that picture – while cool and sexy – was a royal pain in the ass. Maybe next year.
Also, I freely admit that this picture kind of sucks. So, I guess in addition to wishing Ms. Gugino a happy birthday, I should probably also apologize. Oh well.
Anyway, I’ll be back later with a regular post, but I thought I should post something to acknowledge this special day.
