No Schedule, Hidden Toothlessness, A Call From Hell, And A Busy Week

This morning found me waking up earlier than usual and getting my walk finished nearly an hour ahead of schedule.
Not that I’ve been following a schedule lately. I’ve pretty much gone back to drifting through my days with no real plan.
And it shows; for a little while, when I was following a schedule, I was at least a little bit productive.
Whether or not that productivity actually meant anything was beside the point. Meaningful or not, I was accomplishing stuff.
Now not so much.
Maybe my PDA will help me out with that when it arrives.
Yeah, right.
Mostly the PDA will serve as a cool new gadget to play around with for a while and will have no significant impact on my life whatsoever other than to drain my bank account of some money.
Oh well.
In any case, following my walk I did not much of anything beyond some reading (more on that in a future post) for several hours.
I had a dentist appointment in the afternoon, and at around noon my dentist called and asked if I could go in about forty minutes earlier than scheduled. Obviously I had nothing better to do, so I agreed.
The appointment itself went rather quickly, as all he wanted to do was check out how my gums are healing and to figure out how we’re going to proceed.
Basically, at this point I need a filling and another crown, in addition to the partial plate to make up for my missing teeth.
Unfortunately at this point I’ve maxed out my insurance for the year and I don’t have enough money in my Flex account to pay for everything. However, the partial will take about a month to make, and my gums need to heal more anyway, so by the time we get around to that part he can defer the billing until next year, when my insurance resets.
So I’m going to be toothless for a while longer, but I’ve begun to adapt to it, and it’s not like I ever smile or anything for people to easily notice my toothlessness.
For that matter, it’s not like I even interact with many people, so it really isn’t a big deal.
Beyond the dental appointment not much happened today.
As mentioned, I did a lot of reading.
And now, here I am, writing this.
The weekend was pretty much a weekend like any other, with only a few exceptions.
One of those exceptions was, as mentioned, the purchase of a PDA.
Another was that I got a call at work from my mother on Saturday.
I don’t know that I’ve mentioned this before, but back when my dad was first being checked out after his heart attack, in one of the chest X-rays the doctors spotted something on his lung.
As his heart was the most pressing matter, they waited until that was taken care of before trying to figure out what they were seeing.
Obviously the concern was that it was cancer, though the consensus was that it didn’t really look like cancer.
In any case, on Friday he went in to get it checked out and while they’re still not sure what it is – it could be something he’s had all his life – it’s definitely not cancer.
So that was good news.
On the topic of phone calls, Friday night at around 8:30 my phone rang.
As most of you know I go to bed very early on weekends, usually before 7:30.
This is mostly because I have to be up very early in the morning for work, particularly because I go in over an hour early to work ou,. Granted, even with my early rising I could stay up a little later, but the obvious question is for what?
Why should I stay up? I have to get up early, I’ve got nothing to stay up for, so I might as well get as much sleep as possible, particularly since I tend not to get much sleep during the week.
In any case, when the phone rang it woke me up in a panic, as even though it was 8:30 it was light out, so I thought that it was morning and that somehow I’d overslept. I quickly realized that it was PM, though, and answered the phone, though I didn’t recognize the number.
Once I answered it I was greeted by a woman yelling at me in some demon language.
I pulled the phone away, tried to shake the cobwebs from my head, and gave it another shot, only to be greeted by more demonic yelling, at which point I just hung up.
In all honesty, the “demon language” was probably Spanish or something, but when you’ve just been woken from a sound sleep and had a brief moment of panic, any language will sound as if it’s coming from Linda Blair speaking in hellish tongues, but a language you don’t really understand, especially when uttered excitedly, for unknown reasons, and most likely intended to be heard by someone else entirely, will prove really baffling.
Saturday night at around the same time I found myself confused once again by the ringing of a phone. This time I realized a little more quickly that it wasn’t morning and that I hadn’t overslept, but I was still baffled when I hit the “Talk” button on my cell phone and the ringing continued.
After a bit I realized that my cell phone doesn’t ring like a normal phone anyway so therefore it was my other phone that was ringing.
I proceeded to answer it and found that it was my friend Kevin, who’d actually called the week before, though I’d missed his call because I didn’t have the phone in the bedroom and never heard it over the sound of the window A/C unit.
We talked for a while, though I was pretty groggy throughout most of it, and was a bit tired come Sunday morning thanks to having lost a chunk of my usual sleeping time.
But oh well. It was good to talk to him.
Tomorrow (well, today at this point) I’ll be going to see “Fantastic Four” with Scott.
Wednesday and Thursday I’ll be taking an XML class at HQ.
So it’ll be a busy week. Hopefully my PDA will arrive sometime before it’s over so that I can keep track of it all…
