Not Quite THAT In Love With It...

Over the weekend, inspired by seeing the movie last week with Scott, I picked up a volume reprinting the entire run of the old Marvel John Carter of Mars series.
Some of the issues feature pencils by the legendary Gil Kane, with inks by Ruby Nebres. It is - especially in the black and white format -  stunningly gorgeous work:

Love it.

Admittedly, it suffers a little from the shortcomings of the printing technology and paper stock of the 1970s, but even so, I have to say that I love it.
Now, I don't love it so much that I'd marry it. I mean, if we were talking about the beautiful results of a well-suited penciller and inker team that I would marry, we'd have to be talking about John Byrne and Terry Austin, or, if their art wouldn't have me, George Perez and Jerry Ordway.
But I have to say there's a good chance that I could, if I were in a relationship with pencil and ink art, be tempted to cheat with the art of Kane and Nebres...

The Question For The Ages...

...or at least, the question for my age:  What should I get Jon for his upcoming birthday?
While I would never turn my nose up at large amounts of cash or Bearer bonds, or expertly-trained courtesans, I also wouldn't mind getting this.
Though let's not completely scrap the whole large amounts of cash and/or expertly-trained and, ideally, extremely flexible courtesans...

Like I Didn't Have Enough Reasons Already...

Apparently I didn't have enough reasons to be envious of George Perez and the career he's built based on his incredible talent.
I mean, seriously, as much as I admire his talent - he's my absolute favorite artist, after all - I can't help but be at least a little bit envious.  Why'd you have to go and hog all the talent, Mr. Perez?
And of course he's put that talent to good use in his long and acclaimed career, so, as someone who's squandered what little he does have in the way of talent, yes, I envy the hell out of him, even as I idolize him.
But no, those things weren't enough, as evidenced by this video, in which he gets to sketch on Amber Love's butt:

Though to be fair, this also serves to make me admire him even more.
Here's to you, Mr. Perez.
Oh, and the song is kind of catchy, too.
