If I were of a mind to, I could put together some kind of year in review sort of post, but I’m not really of a mind to do so.
I mean, you were there, too, so you saw what happened. In fact, I would imagine that you were much more involved with it than I was. Why would you need me to tell you?
Still, I will say that at best 2006 was something of a mixed bag for me.
I won $10,000, I bought a condo, my dad died, and one of my best friends either killed himself or abandoned his life in some other fashion, with the end result being that he’s gone.
So yeah, at best a mixed bag.
I can’t really make any predictions of what will come in 2007. Let’s just hope it’s less momentous than the year that preceded it.
Obviously, being Jon, I have no plans for tonight.
I haven’t actually done anything for New Year’s since 1999 turned into 2000, and even then I didn’t do much beyond sitting in one bar until around 2 am and then sitting in an all-but abandoned strip club in which none of the dancers were actually dancing, since it was all-but abandoned, until close to 4 am.
I suppose that, all things considered, that was an appropriate start for the new millennium for me (and yes, unlike most people, I do realize that the new millennium didn’t actually start until 2001, but like most people I don’t really care).
Not surprisingly I won’t be making any resolutions for the new year. For one thing, I don’t really have much in the way of major vices left to try to give up/restrain, and for another, if I’m going to do something I’m much more likely to just do it than to resolve to do it. And finally, resolving to do something is just setting myself up to fail to do what I resolved to do.
As a wise man once said, “Trying is the first step towards failure.”
In any case, for those of you who are of a mind to go out and celebrate, have a safe and happy New Year and I hope you’ll come back here for more of the same old crap in 2007.
