Sometime before 1 PM Eastern today, my father, Sherwood Maki, died.
Though it was clear from looking into his eyes - which periodically opened reflexively - that he was no longer really with us, his body held on for 15 hours without support, just like the bull-headed, stubborn Finlander he was.
Along with most of my family, I stayed with him right to the end.
I loved my father very much. He taught me a lot of things, the most important of which was how to laugh.
Nothing will be the same without him there to tell me a joke or to laugh at one of mine.
We'll be having a memorial service for him on Saturday and I'll share more details as time allows.
I want say thanks to everyone who has expressed concern and support. It means a lot.
