If you were to click on the “Next Blog” button up in the right-hand corner – No! Don’t click it! I said don’t! Dammit!
Anyway, for those of you who didn’t take the exit, if you were to click on that button it would lead you to another randomly-selected blog.
I do that from time to time when I’m bored just to see what else is out there in what’s been alternatively called “The Blogosphere” and “The Blogverse,” both of which are stupid names, and in doing so I’ve learned a few things:
Not all blogs are work-appropriate
There isn’t much that’s worse than suddenly finding yourself staring directly into a gigantic picture of a woman’s uncovered privates on your computer screen while your boss is standing behind you. Even without the boss standing there, though, it’s still a panic-inducing moment and you find that you can’t close your browser fast enough.
People are crazy
This one is pretty much self-explanatory. It doesn’t say much for your mental health when I feel like the very model of sanity after reading one of your blog entries.
Not everyone enables the “Next Blog” feature
This can be an annoying and jarring experience as you’re idly cruising along from blog to blog or trying to skip past the blogs that aren’t written in a language you can understand. It’s kind of like suddenly hitting a brick wall. It’s especially irritating when combined with the first point, as it prevents you from making a quick escape from the inappropriate content.
In addition to being crazy, people are boring
Like you would need to go to any blog besides this one to learn that.
Of course, these aren’t so much things that I’ve learned through blog surfing so much as they are simple truths that make themselves abundantly clear.
Especially the “crazy” one.
