No Death, Just Taxes

After driving in to work for a weekly meeting (that is now becoming bi-weekly), I stopped at my old place on the way home.
I had inadvertently packed my extra mail key with my stuff, and as the post office hadn’t started forwarding things last week like I told them to, I figured I should stop by and check to see if I had any mail before turning the key in.
In fact, I did have mail:  my W2s and a $149 refund check from Sprint from my old account before I switched over to the Nextel side of the company.  Of course, my old account was showing a credit balance of $333, so I’m not sure how that translated into a check for $149, but it was still nice to get some money in the mail.
I didn’t turn the key in because I wanted to make sure that my mail is getting forwarded (it is) before I gave up my access to it.
Once I got home I decided to take advantage of the 50+ degree weather and take a walk around the neighborhood.
I don’t have easy access to the W&OD trails from here the way I did in Ashburn, but on the other hand there are actual places for me to walk to, like restaurants and stores, so eventually I should get back into walking mode.
After I got home from my walk I went to Turbo Tax Online and did my taxes.  I’m getting a $933 Federal refund, but I ended up owing Virginia $2.
That’s the first time I’ve owed VA taxes, but typically the refund I’ve gotten has been less than the cost of filing my VA taxes anyway, so it really didn’t matter much.
Next year I’ll probably actually go someplace to have my taxes done professionally, as I’ll be filing as a homeowner and will have to pay the taxes on the ten grand from iwon.
Next week, now that I’m more or less settled in, I’ll hopefully have enough energy to write about some of the more noteworthy events from when I closed on the condo last week.
This weekend is the last one that Chris will be working with us, as he’s heading back to New Mexico to take a new position outside of our company.  I’ll have to be sure to give him an extra hard time this weekend.  I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to find someone who can take as much abuse from me and Brian without reporting us to HR as Chris did, and it’s almost a certainty that we won’t be able to find as willing a Food Bitch.
Anyway, join me in wishing him the best of luck and hoping that the people at his new job aren’t sarcastic dicks like Brian and I.  Good luck, Hawk-es!
In any case, that will do it for this week, I think.  Brian has duty tonight so I’m sure that if there are any calls that take his crew past my place he’ll be sure that the horns and sirens are extra loud as he goes by while I’m sleeping.
