But I like having things, especially cool, shiny, gadgety things.
It's a contradictory state of affairs that can often lead to a great deal of inner conflict.
Today, however, my hatred of spending money lost the battle in the face of an unbeatable enemy: an amazing deal:
Dell Dimension 9100 Mini-Tower: Pentium D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB)
- Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
- 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz (2 DIMMs) - With 4 total slots on the motherboard, that means that I can plug in my 1 GB of RAM from my old computer for a total of 2 GB of RAM.
- 160 GB EIDE SATA Hard Drive (7200 RPM) - with my old hard drive and my external drive, that adds up to a total of more than half a terabyte of storage. That's a lot of porn.
- 256MB PCI Express x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory
- 16X DVD ROM Drive
- 16x DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability- This will mean having a total of three DVD burners on hand. I'll most likely swap this one out and replace it with the recently-purchased LightScribe burner, but that still leaves me one more than I need, as the other Dell also has a double-layer burner. I'm sure I'll figure something out, though..
And what made this such an unbeatable deal? It was only $600.
Yeah, I know, only is a relative term, but it really is a good deal.
Besides, my current system keeps making odd noises and gets slower and slower every day, and buying a new system was inevitable, so what difference does it make if I buy one a few months ahead of schedule?
Still, I'm not terribly happy about the gaping $600 hole in my savings, but I probably would have felt worse if I'd passed up this deal.
At least that's what I'm going to keep telling myself...
