Well, It's Black, So That's Another Good Thing About It, I Guess...

As I’m writing this my cable is out, so I have no idea when I’ll actually get to post it.
This afternoon I called over to the dealership to make sure that my car would be ready. The guy I talked to said, “Could you call back in thirty minutes? I’m going to have to get you into a car…”
Evidently the rims that were ordered did not arrive today, and will not arrive (at the earliest) until next Tuesday.
So the good news is that Kia is footing the bill for a rental car for me in the meantime.
The bad news…well, let’s just say that the only good thing I can say about the car they’re springing for is that I’m not paying for it.
It’s a compact car called an “Aveo,” and it looks rather like a minivan that’s been hit with a shrink ray.
Apparently it’s the kind of car that Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy rented while in Europe in the movie “Just Married.” This, at least, is according to the word of the chick from Enterprise who brought the car to the dealership for me.
She had mentioned that to me by way of describing which car I should look for in the lot, but it wasn’t especially helpful, as I haven’t seen the movie, or necessary, as I’d seen her drive in to the lot in the first place and known instinctively that the crappy car that was arriving was the one that was intended for me.
As for the girl from Enterprise herself, despite an overwhelming preponderance of freckles, she was cute (and had a very nice ass). I did manage to get in a ring check (there wasn’t one), but beyond that I didn’t really have the wherewithal to muster up anything resembling charm as she rushed me through signing and initialing the papers. After all, I didn’t go out this afternoon expecting to encounter an attractive, unmarried woman at the service center of a car dealership.
I’m sure I cut quite a dashing figure in my “That’s what she said” T-shirt, though…
After I brought Kathleen’s Sportage back Brian and I stopped to have lunch before he dropped me off at the dealership.
When I first got there, the guy I’ve been working with wasn’t there, so I got help from someone else, simply explaining that I was supposed to be getting a loaner. He had me fill out some papers and sent someone to get a car for me. I then mentioned that I wanted to grab some things from my car, so he called Larry, the guy I’ve been working with, and asked where my car was. He also idly mentioned that someone had gotten a car for me, which prompted Larry to explain that I was supposed to be getting a car from Enterprise, not one of the cars on the lot.
That was disappointing, as the car they were going to give me was much nicer than what I ended up with.
Before the Enterprise chick arrived, Larry brought me out to my car so that I could grab what I needed. When I’d left my car there last week I had expected to have it back by Thursday, so I hadn’t thought to grab my Smart Tag, which I really missed over the weekend as I had to stop in the Full Service or Exact Change lanes like a chump as I took the toll road to and from work.
So I grabbed that.
I also grabbed the mug I use for water at work, as it holds a lot and keeps it cold, so I was also missing that over the weekend.
For the hell of it, I grabbed some of my CDs, assuming (erroneously) that the loaner would have a CD player.
Honestly, why even make a car without a CD player these days? How much can they possibly add to the overall cost?
It occurred to me as I was driving home and getting accustomed to yet another vehicle that by the time I get my car back it’ll feel like a new car.
Honestly, if I didn’t owe more than what the car is worth (a lot more), I would just scrap it and buy a new one. Oh well.
In any case, amazingly enough, my cable is actually back up and running, so I guess I’ll just post this while I can.
