Well, if you've been visiting my NaNoWriMo/NaNoBlogMo blog at www.15000years.blogspot.com on a regular basis, you may have noticed that I have actually finished my novel.
So I did it. I lived up to the terms of the challenge, producing a final total of 51,214 words in (less than) 30 days.
Having answered the question of whether or not I could do it, the obvious follow-up question is, "Did I do it well?"
I don't think that's really for me to judge, but I'd honestly have to say, in answer to the question, "not really."
The end result definitely has its moments, and given that it's essentially an extremely rough draft of a novel that I had no faith in, simply because I really didn't put that much prior thought into it, it's not really fair to judge it too harshly.
Still, I had hoped to produce something at least slightly more coherent and engaging.
But the point wasn't to write a great, or even especially good novel, it was to simply write a novel.
Judged in those extremely limited terms, then, it was a smashing success.
Now that it is written, I may revisit it and try to more fully develop and explore the themes and concepts addressed in the story, ultimately re-presenting it the world in a more polished form, though that's probably not going to happen anytime soon. After a month of plugging away at it, I'm glad to see the end of it, and am in no hurry to return to it.
Though I will miss Lissa a great deal.
Still, it's probably better for my mental health to stay far away from the imaginary woman who was getting me to fall in love with her...
Whatever; the point is that, such as it is, the stor is done.
Will I try this again next year? I honestly don't know, but if I do, I'll be sure to give it a lot more thought ahead of time.
