In 1979, comic book legend Jack Kirby was tapped to produce concept art for a movie adaptation of Roger Zelazny's novel Lord of Light (which is one of my all-time favorite books).
When I first read about that a couple of years ago, I could pretty much perfectly visualize what Kirby would have come up with. Thanks to this site, I don't I have to imagine anymore (though for the record, my imagination was pretty spot-on).
As if Kirby movie concept designs aren't interesting enough - Seriously, why isn't that good enough for you? It's movie concept designs by Jack Frickin' Kirby! There's just no pleasing some people - this article in Comic Urban Legends Revealed (You'll have to scroll down to get to it) over Comics Should Be Good details the story of how the Lord of Light movie played a role in extracting six Americans, who were nearly taken hostage in the American embassy, from Iran.
Not bad for a movie that never actually got made.

What I thought was crazy about the whole thing (other than the CIA plot) was that the movie was to be financed by the opening of a theme park entitled, "ScienceFictionLand". Not only that, but the theme park would be based on sets in and from the movie, inspired by Kirby's concept sketches. Granted, this was way back in 1979, so by the time I'd be old enough to appreciate the minds behind it, it would have been run down and possibly abandoned, but still, it would have been cool.
