For what feels like several weeks now I've had this feeling like a cold or something more serious was threatening to kick in at any moment. Nothing really specific, just some minor difficulty with breathing, some tightness in my chest, that sort of painfully dry feeling at the back of my throat, etc.
Beyond that, I've been feeling kind of run down, and doing a lot more sleeping than usual.
Today I had a sore throat, felt really tired, had a bit of a cough, was sneezing a lot, and found that the tightness in my chest had increased considerably. I'd intended to finish out the day at work and then head to urgent care to get it checked out, but my boss told me not to bother with staying any longer, so I left early.
When I got there, the woman at the counter actually managed to make an appointment for me within the next ten minutes, so I had a much smaller co-pay as a result.
Turns out I don't actually have a cold or anything, just some random post-nasal drip that's clogging things up. The doctor prescribed some decongestants and recommended lots of fluid and rest, so I'm working from home tomorrow.
I feel slightly better already after having taken a lengthy nap and popped some of the pills. I'm still clogged up, but things seem to be loosening up. Which is, of course, actually kind of gross.
It made me feel kind of silly to go the doctor for something as minor as a cold - and to have it not even turn out to be that - but the last time I ignored symptoms for an extended period of time until they finally became unbearable it turned out that I have diabetes, so I figured that I'd better attend to this.
